The United States of America was born out of conflict better known as the
Revolutionary War. This war was a result of many abuses that were perpetrated
against the American colonies. These abuses included having their economic
commerce controlled for the benefit of England, which lead to goods being
smuggled within the colonies, which resulted in general search warrants being
issued to British officials and the privacy rights of the colonists being violated. The
ability of colonists to pay their debts was made nearly impossible because they
could no longer use colonial currency to do so which increased their burden of
debt. From the quartering of soldiers in public and private buildings to the Stamp
Act which was a form of direct taxation on the colonies. The colonist protested this
form of direct taxation because they had no representation in Parliament and gave
rise to the phrase “Taxation without representation is Tyranny”. These are but a
few examples of the abuses that the American colonies had to endure and what
ultimately led to war. Though the American military was made up of farmers,
merchants and others, for the most part they were not trained soldiers. They were
outnumbered, outgunned and were facing the largest military force on the planet at
that time. Yet in spite of the odds being so stacked against them, the American
people fought for something bigger then themselves, they fought for Freedom.
That is the power of the American people, we have the spirit of Freedom ingrained
into us and that is what enables us to stand against Tyranny no matter the odds.
That is the Power that Built America.
